The Chilton Fire Department was one of 173 groups given a grant through the Compeer Financial Fund for Rural America Emergency Response Equipment Grant.
$4,000 was given to the department and will be used to purchase longer rescue rope, rope bags, and additional rope rescue equipment.
The fire department says it will complement the existing equipment and training in confined space, low-angle, high-angle, and grain bin rescue.
A total of $731,000 in grant money was given out through the grant program and included 13 collaborative grants for equipment shared across multiple fire departments.
The Fund for Rural America has awarded more than $4 million in grants supporting rural first responders since 2018.
