A retired Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant is facing criminal charges.
Dave Remiker, the former leader of the Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit, is facing a charge of Misconduct in Office, Failure to Perform a Known Duty as filed by the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office tells SeehaferNews.com that the charges stem from an “internal audit conducted in February 2024, which revealed that several thousand dollars of asset forfeiture funds were not properly deposited into designated accounts.”
Once the audit was conducted, the Sheriff’s Office requested the Wisconsin Department of Justice to take over the investigation. Sheriff Dan Hartwig thanked the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Brown County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance and professionalism throughout the investigation.
He also noted, “This charge reflects solely on the actions of one individual and does not represent the 113 dedicated and hardworking members of the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.”
Remiker is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and as the criminal investigation is still active, no additional information will be released from the Sheriff’s Office.
All future updates will be released by the Department of Justice and the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.
