A new affordable housing complex is one step closer to being built in Sheboygan.
At Sheboygan’s Finance and Personnel Committee this week, they gave approval for the city to enter into a Tax Incremental District Development Agreement with Jakum Hall Apartments LLC.
This approval now moves the decision to the Common Council to make the final choice on the project, which would develop 33 affordable townhome-style apartments.
The apartments would be located at 2601 North 15th Street, the site of the former Jakum Hall building which was torn down in 2022.
The proposed apartments would include 11 one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units listed under “Affordable Rental Rates” in the city.
The Finance and Personnel Committee believes this project is in the best interest of Sheboygan and its residents, in large part, due to the city’s “critical need” for housing, most notably, affordable housing.
A final approval may be given by the Sheboygan Common Council at their next meeting taking place on November 18th.
