A major trail project in Manitowoc is starting to come together.
Mayor Justin Nickels explained on his Facebook page that the extended Bayshore Trail on the northeast side of the city has been revitalized on the old Elks Club property.
In addition, more than ten acres of land was donated to the city of Manitowoc for trails and public amenities along the Little Manitowoc River.
The project was possible because of two grants Manitowoc got in 2020.
One from the State of Wisconsin Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program is worth $369,400 plus, and $100,000 was added from the West Foundation.
The remainder came from a TIF District. Once the project is completed, the public trail will have lighting, a new kayak launch, and a bridge connecting the Mariners Trail to the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Nickels finishes by saying the project should be completed by the Spring of 2025, with the bridge being installed over the winter and asphalt coming in the spring.
