The Green Bay Diocese Council of Catholic Women is celebrating 100 years of service this weekend.
On Sunday (November 17th, the Council will host a mass with Bishop David Ricken presiding alongside Fr. Matt Simonar, honoring the 100-year legacy of the council.
In 1924, then Bishop Paul Rhode recognized the need for all the parish women groups in the Diocese to have a membership bond.
Each pastor in the diocese was asked to send two delegates to the mass and organizational meeting, which was held on Monday, November 17th, 1924.
A total of 228 delegates assembled at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral for the mass and the first official meeting of the Green Bay Diocese Council of Catholic Women was held.
This Sunday’s mass will again be held at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, located at 140 South Monroe Avenue in Green Bay, and will begin at 1:00 p.m.
