The Manitowoc Public School District is getting ready to hire a full-time superintendent.
During a special Executive Committee meeting, Members Chris Able, Keith Shaw, and Kerry Trask spoke about the different aspects of hiring the person who will take over for Interim Superintendent Lee Thennes after his contract ends on July 1st.
The first thing the committee will want to look at is the job description to make sure it reflects what the district should ask for in their next superintendent.
The committee discussion also favored doing the search in-house rather than using an agency like the Wisconsin Association of School Boards to help the district find its next district head.
Keith Shaw said an agency does much of the district’s work.
The executive committee voted to have the job description portion go to the school’s policy board while they would want to work on the actual superintendent search.
Able also mentioned that the board would need to work on what they should have versus what they want to have for superintendent qualifications.
They are expected to allow six weeks for applications, with the first week of interviews starting in April.
The committee will meet again before the next school board meeting on December 10th at 5:00 pm.
