President-elect Donald Trump has announced his plan to impose a tariff on the three biggest trade partners with the U.S. as soon as he takes office.
The 25% tariff would be imposed on goods imported from Mexico, Canada, and China, with Trump saying it is an attempt to protect our border and stop drug trafficking into the United States.
6th District Congressman Glenn Grothman says he fully supports the proposal, noting, “Under the Biden-Harris Administration, other countries have exploited our open borders, flooding the United States with drugs, criminals, and unsafe practices.”
The Republican from Glenbeulah also said that those policies “led to countless deaths, including the tragic loss of American lives due to fentanyl and other drug overdoses—over 100,000 two years in a row—and spikes in violent crimes committed by illegal migrants.”
Grothman concluded his statement by saying the tariffs will hold those countries accountable and will help strengthen the U.S. economy “by ensuring that our borders are secure, and our communities are protected.”
