As we move past Thanksgiving, the holiday season continues with shopping for gifts.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) reminds those buying gifts for children to be extra careful.
When buying for children, either in person or online, always check for potential hazards like a suggested age range and toys with small parts.
Another concern for customers, according to the DATCP, is “Out of Stock” fake website scammers.
If you’re searching for a toy online, be aware that scammers could take advantage of you on a website that you might not look at normally.
Fake and imposter websites use tactics to make you “buy” an out-of-stock product, but chances are you won’t get what you bought.
The DATCP says never enter your personal information like a credit card or if you’re unsure.
It’s also a good idea to check for spelling errors or unusual phrasing in a web address.
