Approval for a proposed affordable housing complex is set to go in front of the Sheboygan Common Council.
At the Sheboygan Common Council meeting tonight (December 2nd), they will be voting on giving final approval to the Jakum Hall Apartments after being approved by the City’s Finance and Personnel Committee last month.
If approved, Sheboygan will enter a Tax Incremental District Develop Agreement with Jakum Hall Apartments LLC.
The proposed project would build a 33-unit affordable apartment complex at 2601 North 15th Street, the site of the former Jakum Hall building, which was torn down in 2022.
The proposed apartments would include 11 one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units listed under “Affordable Rental Rates” in the city.
The project is believed to gain approval from the Common Council as the Finance and Personnel Committee believes this project is in the best interest of Sheboygan and its residents due to the city’s “critical need” for housing.
Voting was originally scheduled for the council’s November 18th meeting, however, that meeting was canceled pushing the vote to tonight.
