Two individuals who passed away in a car accident this weekend in Manitowoc County have been identified.
The crash took place on the southbound lane of Interstate 43 yesterday (December 1st) at 1:48 a.m. in the Township of Manitowoc Rapids.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that 76-year-old Michael Johnson of Chilton was traveling north in a Jeep Grand Cherokee while in the southbound lane.
43-year-old Jacob Ruiz of Sheboygan was traveling south in the proper lane in a Volkswagen Golf.
The two vehicles collided head-on.
No additional passengers were present in the vehicles.
However, both drivers were reported dead at the scene of the crash.
A third driver in a Chevy Equinox, also traveling southbound on I-43, struck debris in the roadway following the fatal crash.
The unnamed driver and passengers were uninjured.
Currently, the Wisconsin State Patrol is working on a reconstruction of the crash, and the accident remains under investigation.
