As the year comes to an end, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has released its numbers from the Adopt-A-Highway program.
In 2024, over 5,900 miles of state highways were adopted in the state thanks to the program.
Nearly 15,000 volunteers from more than 3,000 volunteer groups took part in work on adopted roadways.
In the Adopt-A-Highway program, each qualified group takes responsibility for litter control on approximately a two-mile segment of state highway.
This year, these groups put in an impressive 5,400 plus hours of work and picked up 171 tons of garbage, which totals just under 350,000 pounds of trash taken off roadways.
