The Lincoln Varsity Dance Teams competition season is in full swing, and they have many goals set for themselves for the rest of their season.
They recently had their first competition in Sheboygan Falls and took 1st place with their D1 Hip Hop routine and 3rd place with their D2 Pom routine.
Head Coach Emily Duckart has high expectations and big goals for her team this season.
She further explained to Seehafer News, “Our ultimate goal is to always make it to state, especially in both of our routines. We’re in a really intense D1 Hip Hop category and we’re against some of the best teams in the state so the pressures really on for hip hop which is really scary.”
She admitted, “Our expectation for each practice and competition is that we leave better each time, and that we’re bringing home hardware to prove it.”
To attain the goals set out for their team and to keep the girls motivated through the 8-month-long season, Duckart believes it’s important to have a positive environment and celebrate even the little things.
She noted, “We’re technically a 3-season sport, we run from July to February, so we always just try to keep practices really fun and positive, so we have a really good relationship with one another. And I feel like we balance humor, hard work, and our goals all really well and equally.”
She elaborated, saying “One thing that we do that I really pushed last year is that we celebrate all of our successes inside and outside of dance team. So, if someone gets a new job, or if something exciting happens in their life, or they get a new skill, or whatever. We celebrate everything.”
The team was very successful last season, placing 5th in the state for D1 Hip Hop.
Duckart expressed great confidence in her 2024-2025 team and said she always reminds them that they can achieve even more.
The coach said she is trying to push even further a few things she implemented last year.
“Last year we broke a lot of boundaries as our program, and we were really proud of ourselves so, this year we decided to do that even more, so we took it upon ourselves, and we hired new choreographers,” she explained. “And I kind of just told the girls like you’re going to do things you’ve never been taught before; you’re just going to be thrown into new things, and they were all really for it. So, one of our mottos this year is to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. So, I think that’s just a mindset we’ve been pushing on ourselves. It might not be easy, it might not come right away, but we’re going to get there together as a team.”
The Lincoln Varsity Dance Team will attend its second competition of the season this Saturday, December 7th, at Ashwaubenon.
