The Wisconsin State Park System is celebrating 125 years next year.
The Wisconsin DNR wants everyone in the state to celebrate with them by spending time in the parks, attending commemorative events throughout the year, and learning about the park system’s history.
DNR Parks and Recreations Management Director Steve Schmelzer says more than 20 million people visit Wisconsin state parks and forests yearly to enjoy the great outdoors.
The DNR also says that over the last 125 years, the state park system has shown commitment to natural resource stewardship and providing high-quality outdoor recreation to Wisconsinites.
In the next 125 years, the park system wants to improve public access to provide relevant and innovative enhancements that benefit the customer experience.
Throughout 2025, the DNR will have celebrations and special events led by state park system staff and partners.
