A sanitary sewer experienced an overflow at a park in Sheboygan earlier this week.
The Sheboygan Department of Public Works reported that the overflow occurred at Evergreen Park on the City’s northside and was first identified on Monday (December 2nd).
The DPW was alerted of an issue after a resident reported an unusual sewer odor in the area.
Crews responded immediately to resolve a blockage that caused the overflow; however, some overflow entered the Pigeon River.
Crews cleared the blockage, restored normal flow, and removed wastewater from nearby low-lying areas.
The DPW continues to monitor the situation and has assured Sheboyganites that the area of Evergreen Park is remote and, as a result, the risk of direct human, pet, or wildlife exposure is minimal.
The city is taking preventative measures, and those seeking additional information on the overflow are asked to call the Sheboygan Wastewater Treatment Plant at 920-459-0220.
