A dispatcher in Fond du Lac is being commended for their part in preventing a teen’s suicide attempt.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said its communications center recently received a call from a distraught teenager at 2:00 a.m.
The teenager told the dispatcher she was on the roof of a parking ramp in Downtown Fond du Lac and contemplating jumping.
The dispatcher, understanding the severity of the situation, was able to calmly communicate with the teen with positive messages.
The dispatcher convinced the teenager not to jump, and shortly after, the Fond du Lac Police and Fire Departments arrived.
They found the young woman in distress with one leg hanging over the edge of the ramp.
Authorities were able to get to the teen and pull her back off the edge.
Following the incident, the Sheriff’s Office highlighted the work of the dispatcher and the importance of the communications center in times of critical need such as this.
