Much-needed renovations have been approved for Municipal Field by the Manitowoc Public School District.
Last week, the school board unanimously approved the $900,000 in funding to kick start renovations for the baseball facility, which is used by Manitowoc Lincoln High School and roughly 300 youth baseball players.
Ships head baseball coach Bruce Steinbecker thanked the board for turning this dream into a reality.
“The school board has been amazing,” he told SeehaferNews.com. “We’re in a time right now when we have a lot of needs in our district. We’re super appreciative (of the board) for giving us the go-ahead on the project and support us financially in our upgrade needs.”
Currently, drainage and overall field quality at Municipal Field have gotten to a point where they are being viewed as safety concerns for players.
The $900,000 approved by the board, along with approximately $300,000 in fundraising, will see construction begin in the spring of next year.
Coach Steinbecker also noted, “The bottom line is that we will have 100 percent turf, and we will have those bullpen areas ready to go for the spring of ‘26.”
Keith Shaw, MPSD Board Treasurer, explained why the project got his vote, saying, “I want to be proud of Manitowoc Public School District’s athletic facilities. We have one of the best in the Rubick Field Complex. It’s phenomenal. We can have the same for baseball.”
If construction at Municipal Field is completed on schedule, the new turf baseball field will be ready for use in the spring of 2026.
