Some Manitowoc County residents are still being scammed.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office announced on their Facebook page that they have taken calls where victims are reporting being scammed out of thousands of dollars.
These scammers are making up stories such as a granddaughter was involved in a crash that caused the death of someone else.
In order to get them out of jail, the person will need to pay $20,000.
The scammer then arranges to pick up the cash at the victim’s residence.
Sheriff’s deputies say it’s important to remember not to act on emotion or urgency when providing scammers with personal information, money, gift cards, or other forms of payment.
They also say scammers prey on the trust and compassion that we have for other human beings.
This time of the year should be filled with happiness and joy, however for some it has turned to disbelief and loss.
