The City of Manitowoc is preparing to fund its next phase for water main replacement.
A memo from Finance Director Shawn Alfred says the city entered into a contract with Vinton Construction for Phases two and three, which will cost a little more than $3 million.
Alfred suggested having the city enter into a cost-sharing agreement with Manitowoc County since the funding for the water mains came from American Rescue Plan Money.
He also says the accelerated schedule was due to the lengthy time the Public Service Commission took to approve the water main project’s expansion.
It was essential to get it done because the ARPA money wouldn’t be available after this year.
The council unanimously approved the Subrecipient Agreement with the county to help pay for Phases Two and Three.
According to Manitowoc Public Utilities, replacements have happened on Franklin Street, Barkwood Bentwood Lane, and Fleetwood Drive.
