The Wisconsin DNR is asking for public comment regarding the incidental taking of a rare snake species.
The DNR says the take could be a result of three trail expansions happening at Peninsula State Park.
The plan is to construct three new trails that are ADA compliant, ranging from one-third of a mile to half mile.
However, the endangered eastern ribbonsnake is in the area, which could hurt either their habitat or population.
The DNR concludes that the proposed project will minimize the impacts on the species by adhering to conservation measures and is not likely to jeopardize the continued existence and recovery of the state population of the species.
The public can submit written comments regarding project-related impacts of the eastern ribbonsnake until January 17th.
They can be sent to the DNR’s office in Madison.
