Seehafernews.com is taking a look back at some of the biggest stories that happened in 2024.
The biggest story this year was the investigation into Elijah Vue. Back on February 20th, Elijah was first reported missing from an apartment in the 3900 block of Mishicot Street in Two Rivers.
An Amber Alert was issued.
Two Rivers Police told the media that it was for the conditions outside since it was still winter, and no child would be able to survive the 30-degree temperatures for long without some type of coat.
Following the announcement, volunteers and police officers did numerous searches around the Two Rivers area, some of which extended all the way to Fond du Lac.
A day after Elijah was reported missing, his mother, 31-year-old Katrina Baur, and his then caretaker, 39-year-old Jesse Vang, were arrested and charged with child neglect for incidents, like keeping food and sleep away from the toddler, that happened before Elijah was reported missing.
A ceremony honoring Elijah, as well as a celebration of what would have been his fourth birthday, were held as residents held on to hope that the missing toddler might be out there somewhere alive.
However, those hopes ended after human remains were found in the Town of Two Rivers. Two Rivers Police, as the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations, later confirmed that those remains were Elijah Vues’.
Since then, new charges were given to both Baur and Vang in what is now being considered a death investigation.
Vang is facing charges of physical abuse of a child, causing death, hiding a corpse, and obstruction and could get a life sentence if convicted.
Baur is facing chronic child neglect; consequence is death, child neglect, and two counts of obstruction.
Since Elijah’s passing, there has been a toy drive held on the Remembering Elijah Vue Facebook page, which allowed about 200 kids to receive a gift this Christmas.
