Kurt Zempel, the assistant chief of police, has been appointed to fill the role left by soon-to-be former Police Chief Chris Domagalski.
According to the city, Zempel’s promotion follows an exemplary 20-year career with Sheboygan Police, where he advances through the ranks from Police Officer to Detective, Sergeant, Commander, and, more recently, Assistant Chief of Police.
He is also an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and has served on the national board of directors of the Southern Police Institute Alumni Association since 2019.
Sheboygan Police and Fire Commission President Larry Samet said of Zempel, “His leadership style, focused on collaboration and trust, will continue the department’s tradition of excellence, securing and enhancing the strong bond between law enforcement and the residents of Sheboygan.”
The official swearing-in ceremony for Zempel is at the city’s next regular council meeting on Monday, January 20th, at 6:00 pm.
Some light refreshments and cake will be served in the council chambers before the meeting at 5:00 pm.
