The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is advising residents to check fire conditions before they burn.
Spring wildfire season has hit the state and is only heightened with dry and windy weather conditions.
The DNR has said that 170 wildfires have burned over 450 acres of land in Wisconsin already in 2025, which is four times more than the average number for this time of year.
Currently, the number one cause of wildfires in Wisconsin continues to be the burning of brush, leaves, and other debris.
Those who are looking to burn materials in the spring are highly recommended to check the DNR’s online fire danger webpage before doing so, as the results could be catastrophic.
Late last week, we reported that a controlled burn quickly spread across a dry lawn before igniting a family home, which was deemed a total loss.
While burn permit suspensions were not in place in Fond du Lac County, where the fire occurred, the DNR listed the county’s fire risk as “very high.”
Checking fire conditions before burning anything can save lives, properties, or vital state natural resources.
