There was quite a bit of buzz and excitement yesterday when the un-assembled Spirit of the Rivers Monument arrived from the state of Oregon, by trailer, just north of the Memorial Drive wayside between Manitowoc & Two Rivers. Project committee leader, Carol Wergin, and others had a toast on the lakefront.
Famed artist and sculptor, Skip Wallen of Manitowoc, tempered his enthusiasm saying, “sometimes the excitement is eclipsed by worries.”
Steve Parks, the foundry man who cast the local artists work, drove it here from Enterprise, Oregon.
Workmen will begin assembling the Spirit of the Rivers Monument today with a formal dedication set for the middle of next month during Ethnic-Fest.
