The City of Manitowoc and Friends of Red Arrow Park Inc have scheduled a celebration of the Rededication of Red Arrow Park on Saturday, July 15th. Ed Hansen, retired command sergeant major of the 32nd Infantry Brigade-Red Arrow, is President of the Friends of Red Arrow. He tells us the first thing they did was sandblast the long-present cannons in the park, repaint them and get them remarked. He added they’ve laid down a pad in anticipation of acquiring another military vehicle in the future. Memorial bricks and 3 flagpoles are in place, with the ultimate big piece of the project, designed by John Peroutka yet to come.
The morning of the rededication, all Berlin Crisis Red Arrow veterans are asked to report in front of the mural on the side of the former Richter-Vinegar building at 9 am for pictures. The ceremony itself starts at 10:30 that day and will include Brigadier General Mark Anderson, Deputy Adjutant General Wisconsin Army National Guard as prime speaker, Mayor Justin Nickels and local veterans groups. Music will be provided by the 132nd Army Band of the National Guard and A Touch of Harmony quartet from the Clipper City Chordsmen. The public is invited. Limited seating is available so bring your lawn chairs.
