Eric Thames homers twice, as the Milwaukee Brewers hit four round trippers in a 6-2 home win against Baltimore on Independence Day. Stephen Vogt had a two run homer in the second inning which put the Crew in front for good — Travis Shaw had a solo shot — and both of Thames’ homers were solo blasts which gave him 23 for the year. Jimmy Nelson struck out eight in seven innings, giving up one run on six hits as he improved to 7-4. For Baltimore, Jonathan Schoop hit a solo homer, and Orioles’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez gave up five runs in five frames as his record fell to 3-4. Milwaukee has won five of its last six, while extending the National League Central lead to three and one half games on second place, and four and a half on Saint Louis after both the Cubs and Cardinals lost Tuesday.
