Corey Knebel is throwing his fastball and curveball sharper than ever, and he says it’s made him more confident going into tonight’s (Tuesday’s) Major League All Star Game. The 25-year-old right hander is the Milwaukee Brewers’ only representative on the National League team — and he earned the spot in part by setting a new Major League record with at least one strikeout in all 43 of his appearances this season. During his media interviews in Miami Monday, Knebel said he has never thrown his fastball with more velocity. Statcast says Knebel’s four seam fastball averages 97 miles an hour — more than one mile an hour faster than last year. Knebel also says he’s controlling his fastball better, while his curveball has shown a larger drop at the plate with an average speed almost 20 miles slower than his heater.
