Brewers’ second baseman Eric Sogard is close to starting a minor league rehab assignment, as he recovers from a sprained left ankle he suffered earlier this month. Sogard received a cortisone shot last Friday, and he had batting and running drills Monday with no pain. Brewers’ manager Craig Counsell said Sogard will be evaluated each day until he’s back to full speed — and he’ll then have one or two minor league games before returning to the Milwaukee lineup. Jonathan Villar has played well in Sogard’s absence, as Villar ended an eight game hitting streak in Monday night’s loss at Pittsburgh.
