Matt Tolan of Eau Claire has taken the lead going into today’s (Thursday’s) final round of the State Amateur golf tournament. The 18-year-old Tolan shot a minus five 65 in his third round Wednesday at the Oconomowoc Golf Club to go six below par for the tournament at 204 — two strokes ahead of Eddie Wajda of Brookfield, who was one of three players to share the lead after Tuesday’s second round. Jacob Michel of Lodi is three strokes off the pace in third. Meanwhile, the feel good story of the State Amateur is 57-year-old Kevin Cahill of Waukesha — who was not sure he could walk a full round after he suffered a hemorrhage near his brain four weeks ago. He shot an even par 70 Wednesday, and he’s even after three rounds at 210.
