Brewers Lose Sole Possession Of NL Central Lead

It took the Milwaukee Brewers just ten days to blow a five and a half game lead in the National League Central Division. The Chicago Cubs moved into a first place tie with the Crew Sunday night with a 5-3 home win against Saint Louis — just hours after Milwaukee lost at Philadelphia 6-3, as the Phillies scored four times in the fifth inning to win back to back series for the first time since mid April. The Cubs have their first division lead since June sixth, and they did it with solid starting pitching in winning eight of nine since the All Star break. The rebuilding Brewers, meanwhile, have had a faltering bullpen and a lack of clutch hitting among other things, as they went 3-7 since the break and 1-6 on their current ten game road trip. Brewers’ starter Junior Guerra fell to 1-4 after giving up five runs in four plus innings — the Milwaukee offense was held to four singles and a double from Ryan Braun — and the Brewers are off today (Monday) before playing at Washington Tuesday.
