According to Mayor Justin Nickels, a new legislation that was just passed will make notifying council members easier. Under the previous state law, whenever there was a Special Council meeting called by a Mayor, each member of the council would have to be notified in person of the meeting. This caused police officers to hand deliver the notice of meeting to each individual council member. Mayor Nickels explained that under the new law, Mayors can text or email the notice. Mayor Nickels also explained that the new legislation makes notifying the council members easier, more efficient, and will not waste police officer’s time.
