The public can now voice their opinion on the new manure spreading rules, as the public comment period is officially open. The Department of Natural Resources recently released new rules regarding manure spreading to protect families, groundwater, lakes and rivers from manure pollution amidst a pending drinking water crisis. While the new rules do help, Executive Director Kerry Schumann doesn’t think the rules go far enough to protect residents who cannot drink from their wells in places like Kewaunee County.
