Law enforcement is a close knit community, so it’s no surprise that Wisconsin sheriff’s departments are helping out their counterparts in Texas. Members of the Badger State Sheriff’s Association are taking donations to help officers in South Texas who were victims of Hurricane Harvey in a program called “Sheriffs Adopting Sheriffs.” Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says officers were too busy helping others during the hurricane to look after their own homes and families. Schmidt says people can help with the effort by giving monetary donations to participating sheriff’s offices. Schmidt says the program also helped officers in the Northeast during Superstorm Sandy when four sheriff’s deputies received assistance.
