The U-S Transportation Department has found 16 violations at three Milwaukee area plants which refurbish barrels that hold industrial chemicals. The plants are all owned by Container Life Cycle Management in Milwaukee, Oak Creek, and Saint Francis, all with the name Mid America Steel Drum. The D-O-T says the violations include inadequate employee training, improper cleaning of the 55 gallon barrels, and not having required paperwork. The company says it has addressed what it calls “claimed violations,” and the federal E-P-A and OSHA (oh’shuh) continue their own investigations. The Journal Sentinel says D-O-T’s hazardous materials section fined the company almost 32-thousand dollars following inspections in February and March — and regulators have expanded their probes to 13 barrel plants in nine states.
