The Wisconsin DNR is hosting a public hearing this afternoon at the mead Public Library in Sheboygan, to ask the public their opinion on the removal of the County’s non-attainment designation for ozone pollution.
A non-attainment area is an area considered to have air quality worse than the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, which Sheboygan County has met for the past three years.
The removal of non-attainment status would lift the limits on industrial development they are currently under, as well as end the requirements for annual auto emissions testing.
Federal Law requires a public hearing prior to the lifting of the designation.
The hearing this afternoon will begin at 4:30 PM, while hearings are also scheduled for a future date in Kenosha and Door Counties.
