The numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources bear it out – last year was a down season for deer hunters.
Tuesday’s report shows those hunters harvest slightly over 288,000 deer in the archery, traditional nine-day season and the youth hunt.
That compared to 335,000 in 2018.
The D-N-R points to a late start to the season and bad weather as reasons for the drop-off.
The state sold nearly 12,000 fewer deer licenses in 2019.
