Stephen Patrick Mickey, age 71, a resident of Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on January 22, 2020 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Stephen was born on March 10, 1948 in Baltimore, MD to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Bowen) Mickey. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ with the class of 1965. Stephen later went on to graduate from Silver Lake College in 1988 majoring in Human Resources for the Elderly. Much of Stephen’s adult life was spent in various Catholic monasteries and seminaries. The Salvatorian order in St. Nazianz attracted him to this area where he worked as a groundskeeper and delivered meals to shut-ins. Stephen was a colorist, published poet, and founder of his publishing company, Poetic Expressions, in collaboration with his friend Dennis Lennon. Despite Stephen’s limitations with his mobility, he served other people through his art and poetry. It was his “Happy Ministry” and he was always thinking of the people who would be receiving his velvet art works which could be found throughout Manitowoc and missions around the world. Stephen was a man of deep faith, was a prayerful person, was well liked in all of the facilities he resided in, loved people, giving and receiving HUGS –even in his final hours.
Survivors include Stephen’s five siblings, Joseph (Lenora “Penny”) Mickey, Hollywood, FL; John (Beverly) Mickey, Charlotte, NC; Catherine McEwan, Chester, NY; Elizabeth (Daniel) Sargent, Easton, PA; and Ann (Edward) Gowen, Mine Hill, NJ; very good friends, Jim Bechle, Mary Jane Nickels, and Deacon Rich Bahnaman; also 12 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall – 1114 South 21st Street, Manitowoc, with Deacon Rich Bahnaman officiating.
