A Green Bay woman is now home safe after being held captive in the Dominican Republic for months.
The unnamed victim actually called the Brown County Dispatch Center at around 3:45 PM on Sunday and told them she had been held captive for months in the Dominican Republic but was able to escape.
The woman said she had met a man online and went there to see him, but instead was held captive.
She told Tracy Ertl who took the call that the police in the country couldn’t understand her, and anytime she called 911 either no one answered, or she got a busy signal.
The woman did her best to describe where she was, but she didn’t know the address nor the city which she was in.
Ertl then called the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic and got the search going.
For three and a half hours the Embassy workers searched for the woman, while Ertl kept her calm on the phone.
Finally, shortly after 7:00 PM Central time, the victim was found, and was transported back to Green Bay.
An investigation into the case is ongoing in the Dominican Republic.
