A former Wausau fire department paramedic is accused of sexually assaulting a female patient in the back of an ambulance. Clifford Heiser, who turns 33 tomorrow (Thursday), is charged in Marathon County with felony counts of third degree sexual assault and misconduct in public office — plus two misdemeanor counts of fourth degree sex assault. A 29-year-old woman filed a complaint, and Heiser resigned Tuesday after being put on administrative leave. Wausau Fire Chief Tracy Kujawa says his department “violated the trust” of the community, and he said surveillance cameras in the back of ambulances would be one new policy that may be considered. At a news conference, Deputy Police Chief Ben Bliven says police and fire personnel share the public’s frustration — and Kuwaja asked people to “please recognize that the actions of one should not extend to all.”
