September was much warmer and drier than normal in Wisconsin. The National Weather Service in La Crosse recorded an average daily high of 80 degrees last month, and an average low of 57 — making for an overall average of almost 69, about six degrees warmer than normal. Less than one inch of rain fell in September in the La Crosse area, about two and a half inches below the norm — although farmers enjoyed the drier weather to get ready for their fall harvest. Six heat records were broken in La Crosse last month, including a high of 95 on September 22nd. The coolest reading for September was 43 this past Saturday morning.
