A benefit for Two Rivers Senior Cody Lewis last Friday was deemed a huge success. In fact, organizers for the “Team Cody” Night said it “far surpassed any hopes and dreams any of us may have had when we first started the planning stages.”
Lewis, a student-athlete for the Raiders, was diagnosed with “undifferentiated sarcoma” a rare form of cancer last fall. Cody had fallen on his hip during basketball practice and noticed the pain hadn’t disappeared. Further tests and an MRI revealed cancer that he’s been battling ever since.
Hundreds came out to Two Rivers High School to lend their emotional and financial support but the highlight of the evening was during the opening tip of the basketball game between Two Rivers and Kiel on Senior Night. Will Schmid won the opening tip-tapping the ball to Alex Klein who passed it to Cody who then walked off the court to a long-loud standing ovation.
During half-time Team Cody was presented with a check from Music is the Cure. The annual concert fundraiser was able to present its biggest donations to date after the February 8th show.
Initially given just weeks to live, Cody says thanks to all the love and support he and his family have received it helps him, “have a strong mindset to stay positive through it all and take it one day at a time. It’s the hardest thing to do.”
