A tribal member from Shawano County was planning to fly home from Las Vegas with no desire to attend a conference where a gunman killed 59 people. Cassie Molkentin tells W-L-U-K T-V that she and her friends would not check into the Global Gaming Expo scheduled at Mandalay Bay — where they got separated Sunday night as 100 people were “stampeding” at them yelling “shooter, shooter, run and hide!” Stephen Paddock, whose late father was born in Sheboygan, shot into a crowd of concert goers from the hotel’s 32nd floor. We have no word of Wisconsinites among the dead, but U-W Eau Claire graduate Philip Aurich (or’rick) was in critical condition after being among the hundreds injured. Some other Wisconsinites were either at the concert or close by — and Milwaukee Brewers’ pitching prospect Bubba Derby escaped unharmed after he joined his friends and family at the show.
