Brewers To Take A “Long Look” At Second Base Spot

Brewers’ general manager David Stearns says he’ll take a “long look” at the second base spot during the offseason. The Brewers were so confident that Jonathan Villar would fill the post that they let Scooter Gennett go. But the move backfired, as Gennett had a career year for Cincinnati with a .295 batting average while Villar’s production slipped and he only hit .241 with 23 stolen bases while committing 16 errors in the field. At the Brewers’ season ending news conference Tuesday, Stearns said the team has several options for finding a new everyday player at second. Neil Walker is a possibility, but he’s testing the market as a free agent — and Stearns could also look to veteran Eric Sogard and prospect Mauricio Dubon.
