If you go to Oshkosh, don’t be surprised to see many police officers with facial hair. About 40 Oshkosh police employees each gave at least 50 dollars to the American Red Cross — and in exchange, they’re allowed to exceed department rules on facial hair, within reason. The donations have raised at least two-thousand dollars to help hurricane victims in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. Men can grow beards or goatees, women can wear their hair past the collars of their uniforms, and personnel in plain clothes have “casual days” on Thursdays and Fridays. Officer Joe Nichols says it’s a way to “let their hair down” for a good cause — but it all comes to an end on November 30th.
