The WIAA has announced that they will be restricting attendance at the Basketball Tournament Series and the remainder of all winter tournament events.
A news release says this is in accordance with policies and guidance from public health organizations and the World Health Organization for mass gatherings restricting attendance to 50-250 attendees depending on the event and venue. This policy will limit attendance at the State Tournament to 88 tickets per team, two supervisors and a limit of 22 team personnel.
Cheerleaders, pep bands, school photographers, videographers and on-site sponsors will be prohibited however WIAA Staff, Athletic Trainers and Board of Control members and other personnel deemed essential to the administration of the tournament are permitted. The WIAA State telecasts will continue however limited radio stations will be given clearance to broadcast and press accommodations will be restricted to either a small pool that would provide a copy to the state or to one reporter per team.
WIAA Executive Director Dave Anderson states “The WIAA has been keeping up with public health and medical updates and has recognized the changing environment over the past 24 hours. As good and responsible citizens we are adhering to policies consistent to preventing the spread of COVID-19.”
Tickets for both state tournaments except for the party of 88 immediate family members will be refunded in full. Any tickets purchased at a school, including Mishicot, will be refunded by that school and not the Resch Center or WIAA.
All involved parties ask for your understanding, cooperation and patience in this matter. A news conference with WIAA Executive Director Dave Anderson will be held at The Resch Center in Ashwaubenon at 11:30 this morning.
Plans are to still carry the Mishicot Girls State Tournament Game on WOMT 1240 AM and womtradio.com beginning at 7:45 p.m. and the Roncalli Boys Sectional game from Sheboygan South on 980 WCUB and cubradio.com beginning at 6:40.
Meanwhile, Mishicot Athletic Director Terri Risch says today’s Pep Rally at the High School will go on as scheduled. Doors open at 12:45 p.m. and the rally will begin at 1 p.m.
