With all schools closed amid concerns over the COVID-19 virus, many parents may be struggling with coming up with some activities to do with their children.
The Manitowoc Public Library may also be closed, but they are doing everything they can to continue to serve the community.
We spoke with Julia Lee, the Youth Services Manager at the Library, and she said they are utilizing social media to help parents entertain their children. “We have a couple great resources that we have been posting already,” she explained. “We encourage people to visit our Facebook page often, because we’re trying to post as much hands-on activities you can do at home. A lot of it is going to be links to things that other organizations are creating.”
One such program is being done by one of Julia’s favorite children’s authors, Mo Willems. He is the author and illustrator for books such as “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus”, and he is hosting a live program on Facebook.
Julia explained “Mo Willems…is hosting live cartoon drawing classes, that he is calling ‘Doodle Time’…We have been posting those to our Facebook page.” There are many other videos like this that the Library is also posting.
Julia is incredibly thankful that most everyone has easy access to the internet, because it has made getting people information much easier. “That’s huge in a time like this,” she told SeehaferNews.com. “There’s still ways we can connect with the public. There’s still ways you can get information. As long as possible, we will make sure we can be a hub of information, like the library really is.”
Be sure to check out the Manitowoc Public Library Facebook page for more activities to do with your children, and about the library in general.
