A Milwaukee alderman was removed from his leadership post after questioning spending of a federal grant. Michael Murphy had been serving a chairman of the Common Council’s Judiciary and Legislation Committee. He was suddenly taken out of that role last week when the Council President announced changes to some committee assignments. The Council President says he made the change to spread out the workload. Less than a week before, Murphy had publicly questioned the city agency’s handling of grant money aimed at violence prevention.
