A retired medical imaging employee is starting a blue-ribbon campaign in Manitowoc to support local health care workers.
Curtis Thoms spoke with SeehaferNews.com this week, saying the universal precaution for a pandemic has been around forever if you’ve been in healthcare, but he believes the general population “takes it lightly”.
Thoms added, that this is an educational moment for people to adhere to social distancing.
Thoms says he wants to take a positive approach to show his support for everyone in the medical field, from custodial to nurses aides and nurses to doctors who, in his words, “work more than a 9-5 shift and are on the job for long hours.”
With that in mind, on Wednesday Curtis Thoms plans to begin hanging blue ribbons on trees and poles in front of houses from the neighborhood of North 18th Street and Michigan Avenue, with a goal of reaching Holy Family Memorial to the south.
He hopes to show those in the health care field how much they’re appreciated everyday on their way to and from work.
Thoms is also encouraging others in the city to hang blue ribbons from other directions to HFM, in support of his effort.
