With schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a technology education teacher at Two Rivers High School is involved in an interesting project. Justin Casper, who has taught at the high school for 10-years, tells Seehafer News that he’s coordinating with Holy Family Memorial & Aurora Medical Center to receive face-shields with plastic frames that he developed on 3-D printers!
Casper uses laser-cutting technology for the see-through portion of the shields, making them out of old overhead transparency sheets, deemed antiquated for use by the Two Rivers Public School District. He says he has about 3-dozen ready to go and intends to produce them until the need is over.
Production is done on two, 3D printers that he operates at home during the pandemic. Casper has made an instructional video for his students by way of online learning, through a youtube video. Casper says his high school’s Robotics team is making plastic face-masks with replacement filters. The tech-ed teacher said he was inspired to begin his project as a great way to give back to the community after seeing a recent Green Bay t-v news segment.
His wife, Trisha, employed as a surgical technician at HFM also thought it was a good idea to turn a negative (situation) into a positive. In addition, he says part of the culture at Two Rivers Public Schools is to take care of one another and that’s something our students and staff take great pride in.
Justin Casper wants to ‘thank’ all people employed in the healthcare field, explaining they are essential employees and have no choice in going to work every day. His advice to others is, “stay calm, be smart, stay safe…stick together. That’s what community is all about.”
He explained that people wanting to help out with face-masks or shields can find the files online for free at: www.prusaprinters.org.
