Congressional leaders are pushing ahead with another COVID 19 rescue package as President Trump agrees that Americans will need more help as the economy grinds almost to a halt during this pandemic.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has told House Democrats another $1 trillion is needed.
Sixth District Congressman Glen Grothman is not comfortable with that in lieu of spending twice that amount in the first bill.
Grothman said “$2 trillion spent already, and were going to have lower tax receipts because people are not working, which means we’re going to have a massive deficit this year. I would be very reluctant to spend even more money.”
Grothman tells SeehaferNews.com that the problem in his opinion is “not a lack of money largely in people’s bank accounts but that they’re being cautious in how they spend it.”
He went on to say “Gas prices are down, people are driving less than they used to be because they are working from home. Normally in a situation like that we would be saying ‘Oh, people have money. People are spending more money on other things because they are spending so little on gas.’ That’s happening this time, not because you have money in the bank, but because people are afraid to go out and spend that money.”
The local legislator adds “We’ve got to primarily focus on getting through this disease-making sure that hospitals have enough equipment and then get people back to work. That will be enough of a stimulus.”
