Manitowoc County confirmed its 5th positive case of COVID-19 today with 188 negative test results as of Wednesday afternoon. County officials are not releasing if this case was community spread or any other details on the patient for their privacy. Community spread was previously declared in the County on April 7th.
“It remains very important that people stay home and only go out for essential reasons, avoid private gatherings, wash their hands often, cover coughs & sneezes, and stay home from work if they feeling sick. Social distancing is working to flatten the curve and ensure our local hospitals are not overwhelmed, but it’s too soon to ease up on social distancing or we could still see a significant spike in the future. This latest case is a reminder that the virus continues to spread and that we must remain vigilant,” said Travis Waack, Emergency Services Director.
Additionally, Manitowoc County Health Officer, Mary Halada, issued a supplemental order closing all campgrounds in the County for camping effective May 1st, 2020. This is being done because camping allows for the congregating of groups and encourages non-essential travel by visitors from outside the County that then visit local stores for supplies and may spread the virus to residents in the County.
